Dynasys engineers had tested various EPC GEN2 inlays for comparative range performance. We found difficulties comparing tags as specified by the vendors since the testing is not done using the same set-up. Reader and tag manufacturers advertise ranges based on a special lab controlled environment. The intent of this document is to establish a baseline tag performance for our customers on real world locations, not a controlled lab.

The tags being compared have various antenna and chip combinations that have a direct bearing on the range performance. Furthermore, tag antennas with very high gain are more susceptible to the materials they are attached to. The data presented here includes some older tags still used in many applications. For visual identification we have included a picture of each tag foil being tested. These test tags were attached to thin cardboard materials, except for our Mount on Metal tag that operates best attached directly to metals.
